The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an instructor for Special Warfare training and instruction methodology courses, performing all classroom-related activities, while supporting course curriculum development, modification, and/or revision efforts in initial skills, advanced, and/or supplemental training courses utilizing approved curriculum.

Duties

Instructs students in instructional methodologies for classroom and high-risk operational environments, administrative processes, counseling, learning physiology, and learning psychology at basic and advanced levels as required for the Special Warfare training mission. Researches, develops, revises and recommends updates to faculty development course materials in accordance.with established learning objectives and evidence-based academic studies. Plans, develops, executes, and evaluates a comprehensive and effective training program. Maintains professional and technical proficiency and accomplishes complex special projects related to specialty area, to include staff surveillance visits to various training activities.

  • DOD civilian and contract instructors teaching CCAF accredited courses must possess, as a minimum, an associate degree from an accredited program and appropriate academic preparation or academic preparation (con't)
  • (con't) combined with work experience prior to employment. Academic preparation and work experience must be relevant and applicable to the subject matter taught. This is a requirement as a faculty member of the (con't)
  • (con't) Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) that is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
  • Demonstrated experience instructing in Special Operations/Special Forces/Special Warfare training
  • Position will require routine travel to other military sites to conduct training and provide instructor mentorship
  • This position has been identified as Technical Training Essential
  • Incumbent will be subject to inclement weather conditions including extreme heat, humidity, and/or cold. Physical demands range from walking/hiking at a rapid pace for up to 5000 meters over rough terrain, (con't)
  • (con't) swimming 200m, treading water for 5 minutes, standing during long periods during a typical day, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 pounds of training materials

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, GS-1712, Training Instruction series. ** This is a Community College of the Air Force Position** For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; and work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M. with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience as described above may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of Special Warfare instructor with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest in a wide range of training contexts. 2. Knowledge of Special Warfare instructional methods and design at a practical level to include instructional methodologies for classroom and non-classroom training environments, administrative processes, counseling, learning physiology, and learning psychology at basic and advanced levels as required for the Special Warfare training mission. 3. Knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives. 4. Skill in instructing in high-risk training environments requiring risk management and mitigation, such as on a rappel tower, in the open water, and in/ around aircraft. 5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships. 6. Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions that pertain to training instructional design and instructional materials for inherently high risk activities, to include use of technology for the delivery of high-risk training. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act requires federal agencies to treat an eligible active duty service member as a veteran, disabled veteran, and preference eligible (as applicable) when applying for civil service positions before the effective release or discharge date. Appointment of military members before the release or discharge date is permissible if the member is on terminal leave. At the time the active duty member applies for a civil position, he or she must submit a "certification" memo in lieu of a DD-Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. Active duty members applying for a civil service position without submitting a valid certification memo or DD-Form 214 with their application will render the member ineligible for the position. The certification memo must originate from the member's military service branch on official letterhead and contain the following:
