The primary purpose of this position is to establish long-term subject expertise and maintain success philosophies of civilianized instructors at the 343d Training Squadron. Serves as Technical Training Instructor and supervisor providing planning and direction to, organizing work for, and exercising control over assigned nonsupervisory subordinate employees.

Duties

Duties: Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the 343d Training Squadron, ensuring that the courses taught comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs and ensures effective classroom academic and intense high-risk land-based training designed to demonstrate the importance and use of various tactical applications. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Develops and/or revises lesson plans and training materials and researches, develops, revises and recommends course materials in accordance with established learning objectives. Plans, develops, executes, and evaluates a comprehensive and effective instructor training program. Monitors and evaluates student instructor progress and performance. Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced technical/administrative levels. Represents the 343d Training Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations and works on special projects as directed.

  • Position has been identified as a faculty member of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC).
  • Minimum degree requirement of an associate degree from CCAF or a regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary institution in the discipline or in combination with appropriate work experience in Security Forces, (Cont. below)
  • air base ground defense and the methods and techniques of instruction.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings (shift work), weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Employee is required to work an uncommon tour of duty. This position mandates irregular work schedules with night and/or weekend training activities (e.g., employee may be required to work 12 hours per day, five days (Cont. below)
  • per week and at night). Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • IAW SA-2020-25 This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical/medical requirements of this position as determined are: long periods of standing, moderate lifting and carrying ability (up to 100 lbs.). (Cont. below)
  • The majority of instruction is conducted in an outdoors environment and will expose the incumbent to noise and environmental conditions subject to cold, heat, and/or dust. Incumbent will be subject to inclement weather conditions(Cont. below)
  • including freezing or extreme heat and/or humidity. Instruction will require incumbent to demonstrate and participate in a full range of physical fitness, operational techniques, and combat agility skillsets/requirements. (Cont. below)
  • Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, boots, googles, hearing protection, gloves, and/or shields.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. (Cont. below)

  • It is highly desired that the individual to be proficient in emergency medical response to heat injuries and training accidents.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Travel between JBSA-Lackland, Chapman Training Annex, and Camp Bullis required. Employee must maintain a valid driver?s license and government driver?s license.

Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Cont.: This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions. Employee may be required to wear uniform as directed by the organization and must wear and maintain uniform items in accordance with specified standards. The employee will be expected to maintain grooming standards and present a professional image at all times. Previous Instructor Supervisor and Master Instructor certification highly desirable. Member is required to be Shutdown FIC code X. FURLOUGH EXCEPTED: EDUCATION AND TRAINING. Previous combat and deployment experience highly desirable. Incumbent is expected to accompany and interact with instructors/student instructors/students during training events to include, but not limited to; field training and protracted exercises. This position does have a positive education requirement. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-1712, Training Instruction series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes s teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Knowledge of the methods, principles, practices, and programs related to curriculum development, instructional techniques, training resources, and testing measurement. Knowledge of supervision and management principles applicable to managing a training team and subordinate workforce (e.g. employee motivational techniques, evaluating and reporting on performance, counseling, feedback, and referral requirements, planning, organizing, directing, controlling work center; personnel policies, and team building concepts). For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: All Community College of the Air Force faculty members must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree for the school to meet accreditation criteria. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest. Knowledge of Security Forces Technical Training at a practical level to include air base ground defense, small arms training, nuclear security, aircraft security, common installation defense postures, safety, security and associated management directives. Knowledge of Air Force technical training administration, policies and procedures to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulation, practices, and procedures. Skill and ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. Skill and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
