The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate adult learning about Information Technology at the National Gallery of Art. Through the strategic integration of technology, the ideal candidate will apply adult learning principles when creating multimedia resources, and develop in-person and online courses that empower adults learners. This position plays a vital role in creating dynamic and effective learning environments that help staff to succeed using technology in their work.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1712-12. For this position, specialized experience is at least one year of experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, designing educational materials using adult learning principles. Rather, you must show in your résumé how your past work experience demonstrates that you possess the KSAs identified below. If asked to do so, cite specific examples of employment or experience contained in your resume and describe how this experience has prepared you to successfully perform the duties of this position. DO NOT write "see resume" in your application! Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be evaluated against these factors to determine the best-qualified candidates. Course Design – Knowledge of current methods, approaches, trends and concepts linked to education and learning across a wide spectrum of learners. Program Development – Ability to develop, evaluate, and administer an education program that is constantly changing with emerging technologies. Information Technology – Skill in a variety of Information technology principles, concepts, and functions.  "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration under merit promotion procedures. CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.

Experience

General Experience (for GS-5 positions): Experience that provided evidence of the ability to instruct students in the use of equipment, principles, or practices of the subject or occupation. This experience may have been gained as a teacher or instructor; in on-the-job supervision or instruction of subordinates or fellow workers; or in work involving application of the principles, practices, and techniques of the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).
Supervising or administering a training program.
Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.
Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
