About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division, Communications Branch on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls. Identify the determinant and level of response and provides this and any additional information to the responding units Transfer caller to proper agency as determined or dispatches a variety of emergency equipment to include police, fire, ambulance, Med-Evac, rescue or hazardous materials units. Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority's emergency medical dispatch system. Update information for medical, police and fire personnel enroute to call Provide assistance to medical, police and fire personnel by acting as liaison between department personnel and other agencie

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee to successfully pass a Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) investigation, which includes a Criminal Justice Fingerprint background screening.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid State driver's license in one of the 50 U.S states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires employee to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Pre-employment and random drug testing is required.
  • This position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays), on a rotating schedule.
  • This position requires employee to possess, or obtain and maintain certification in DOD Hazardous Materials Awareness.
  • This position requires employee to possess, or obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System training.
  • Must maintain an overall compliance score of 90 percent, or better, as reviewed by the Advanced Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
  • This position requires employee to possess, or obtain and maintain certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires attaining Continuing Dispatch Education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally.
  • This position requires the employee to possess, or obtain and maintain Department of Defense Tele-communicator I/II Certification.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving and processing emergency calls; and operating automation, emergency dispatching, and communications equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience answering telephone emergency 911, and non-emergency calls coming in for police, fire, or ambulance assistance, and dispatch emergency personnel and vehicles as needed in accordance with established procedures; operate dispatching communications software; use automation equipment in the completion of duties to log calls and prepare reports of activities while on shift. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone at the GS-06 and GS-07 grade levels - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
