You will serve as a PROTOCOL OFFICER in the COMMAND STAFF of COMNAVSURFPAC.

Duties

You will provide a full scope of protocol services for military and civilian distinguished visitors. You will advise on all levels of management and techniques used in developing strategies for use in a wide and diverse range of protocol functions. You will direct and facilitate arrangements for visitors to achieve the best ship, shore or area site visit by planning, coordinating and executing a myriad of activities to meet visit requirements. You will develop and modify protocol policy, disseminate guidance and develop information for briefings and presentations on command issues, programs and events. You will establish and maintain effective relationships and communications with representatives of national, international and local organizations. You will coordinate with support staff to plan and execute ceremonies, events, programs and visits.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work may require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing at various events, climbing ships' ladders, walking and standing outside, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Work occasionally requires setting up for events such as arranging tables, chairs, coolers, podiums, flag stands, food and beverage stations. Position may also require carrying or moving boxes, plaques, etc.
  • Position may require work on evenings, weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying protocol principles, practices and techniques to develop, coordinate and administer protocol policies and functions to execute command event plans, programs and official visits.
