You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN- (MECHANICAL) in the Planning Design and Construction Branch at Public Works Department Annapolis of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING SYSTEMS CMD WASH.

Duties

You will conduct detailed scopes of work and estimates of labor and materials for the repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. You will conduct engineering evaluations to determine conditions of existing facilities and associated systems (e.g., heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration [HVAC]). You will serve as a mechanical engineering technician, responsible for overseeing the installation, inspection, and testing of mechanical features and systems installed. You will provide mechanical engineering technician services and field office support in the areas of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, chilled water, steam, hot water, compressed air, and industrial control systems. You will provide technical support by reviewing submittals, preparing estimates for modifications, and performing quality assurance activities. You will monitor the inspection, installation, and testing of mechanical materials and equipment to be installed for compliance with plans and specifications and contractual terms. You will serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the evaluation, performance, and acceptance testing of HVAC systems. You will participate in periodic and special inspections including witnessing equipment acceptance testing during manufacture and construction and/or upon completion of projects. You will provide knowledge of direct digital controls, sustainable design/construction concepts, and related electrical features associated with complex HVAC systems. You will provide comprehensive and practical knowledge of, and extensive experience and skill in applying a wide range of regulations and policies concerned with a variety of construction methods, mandates, and policies. You will provide design, construction, commissioning and acceptance testing support to the command for the full range and complexity of facilities and systems provided.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge of architectural and engineering concepts, principles, and practices to resolve problems with facility maintenance, repair, and construction projects with special emphasis on mechanical systems (e.g., heating, air conditioning, and ventilation); 2) Estimating and preparing work documents for construction, repairs, and maintenance using commercial cost estimating guides. 3) Preparing engineering specifications and statements of work covering engineering designs or engineering changes for contract bid solicitations.
