Duties

Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines; demonstrates proper work methods. Advises employees to follow established repair methods and procedures. Works along with other workers, setting the pace. Disassembles, diagnoses, troubleshoots, determines extent of repair/disassembly required and repairs, replaces, adjusts, rebuilds, overhauls and reassembles a variety of end items and/or their assemblies, components and parts.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.

I have the ability to perform common duties such as disassembling items, cleaning parts with approved solvents and gages parts to determine their serviceability. Repair or replace defective parts and reassembles items according to tolerances specified. Providing information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability to Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Efforts: Work involves standing, bending, reaching, stretching, crouching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop building that is moderately heated, lighted and ventilated. Work is dirty and greasy and incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises from use of tools and equipment. Is exposed to hazards of moving equipment such as fork lifts, sweepers, etc. Exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible. Wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
