This position is located in the Safety and Technical Training Service Unit, Safety Directorate, Safety Services Group, AJI-1500. This Group is responsible for assisting the Air Traffic Organization (ATO) operational service units by supporting audits and evaluations of air traffic operations and incidents and by engaging in safety assurance, quality control, and quality assurance activities.Selectee(s) will be placed in either AJI-1510 or AJI-1520.

Duties

The Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) applies knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing the movement of air traffic to evaluate non-compliance with prescribed air traffic operations and procedures and to develop Corrective Action Plan (CAP) mitigation efforts. As an expert in air traffic and airspace procedures and processes, the ATCS performs complex, specialized air traffic control assignments. Provides national-level expertise to serve as a senior project manager for non-compliance issues identified by the Air Traffic Safety Oversight Service (AOV). Work directly affects the objectives of the Air Traffic Service and the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS).

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents).
  • Position is ineligible for true time and one half.
  • This position is not covered by PL 92-267 for early retirement purposes, and is therefore, not eligible for "good time" credit.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum requirements for this position, applicants must possess experience in a military or civilian air traffic facility that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the level of work of the specialization for which the application is made. This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules, and regulations.Additionally, to qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-J, FG/GS-14 level. This experience is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.Specialized experience is defined as: Experience participating in safety audit and evaluation committees to support and ensure compliance with safety standards; and participating in the development of safety standards and procedures.You should include relevant examples of the specialized experience in your work history.
