Position has the responsibility of supervising a team of Emergency Services and EMS Personnel. This team is responsible for preparing for, preventing, responding to, and recovering from emergencies in a high-volume Park to ensure the protection of visitors and park resources. Open to the first 100 applicants or until midnight EST on 06/13/2024, whichever comes first.

Duties

Supervisory responsibilities include: planning, scheduling, and coordinating work operations and continuity in emergency medical coverage solving problems related to the work supervised determining materials, equipment, and facilities needed to accomplish objectives explaining and gaining the support of employees for management policies and goals dealing with employees on suggestions, complaints, and other matters Involved In day-to-day administration of the operation Physical Demands: Must maintain good physical condition and be able to pass the Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB), work capacity, or applicable standards outlined in Director's Order 57 (DO-57) and Reference Manual (RM-57) NPS Occupational Medical Standards, Health, and Fitness. Work demands range from moderate periods of office work (walking, standing, sitting, and lifting) to strenuous periods of extreme physical and mental activity. Emergency medical services activities involve walking long distances over rough terrain, carrying heavy loads, and using technical rescue equipment. Must be able to work in tight spaces. Must be able to ride in a boat, work at height, and fly in a helicopter without ill effects. Must be able to perform physical activity in personal protective equipment including dry suits, chemical protective clothing, and respirators. Park ranger - interpreters connect people to parks. They play a key role in ensuring that visitors have a meaningful, satisfying, and safe park experience, help visitors decide how to spend their time in the park, and inform them about the wonders that await their discovery. Park ranger - interpreters are specially trained to engage the public so that each park visitor can find a personal connection with the meanings and values found in the places and stories of that park. They help visitors explore the many dimensions of parks by introducing them to a variety of perspectives. By providing the opportunity for visitors to care about the places they visit, they promote stewardship and the opportunity for those visitors to care for park resources. National parks are among the most remarkable places in America for recreation, learning, and inspiration. The work done by park ranger-interpreters through effective interpretive and educational programs encourages the development of a personal stewardship ethic and broadens public support for preserving and protecting park resources, so that they may be enjoyed by present and future generations.

You must possess a valid National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification or New York OR New Jersey Department of Health EMT certification AND Basic Life Support CPR Certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross. You MUST provide a copy of your EMT and CPR certification or registration for appropriate course by close of this announcement. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: supervising, scheduling, managing emergency medical operations, motivating and guiding staff to achieve goals, coaching, mentoring, training, and evaluating subordinate staff. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at three full years academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, or, Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in one of the following major fields: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts with your application package to support your educational claim. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lowest grade level can be combined with the appropriate level of experience. Take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(2) for CTAP or 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. This includes a copy of the agency notice, a copy of their most recent Performance Rating, and a copy of their most recent SF-50 noting current position, grade level, and duty location.
