The Social Work Program Coordinator will be the Ethics Consultation Coordinator (ECC), they are responsible for the Ethics Consultation Program, and is assigned to a specific Unit with collateral duties. The incumbent is the sole practitioner in this specialty at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, managing the daily operation of the program, developing policies and procedures for program operation, and preparing reports and statistics for the facility, VISN and national office.

VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Duties include but limited to: Incumbent is responsible for the Ethics Consultation Program as well as providing direct services to individuals and families, including work with individuals in group settings. Responsible for reviewing and investigating all applicable consults.-Maintaining direct involvement in all ethics consultations with the primary goal of providing quality consultations with a consistent process as mandated by the National Center on Ethics. Collecting feedback form providers who request consults, analyzing it and improving EC service work, based on feedback. Providing presentations to all employees and/or selected groups at JBVA which will focus on common ethical conflicts, dilemmas, and items that have been already identified in All Employee Surveys and Integrated Ethics Surveys. Facilitating regular in-services for ethics consultants and educating them about common ethical dilemmas, issues, and strategies to resolve these situations. Comprehensive training of individual consultants, including but not limited to helping individual consultants attain and maintain core competencies, and arranging for training of consultants in this regard this includes both mentorship and formal conferences. Ethics Coordinator independently coordinates patient care activities in full accordance with the board program goals of the VA health care system. Incumbent Independently performs case finding functions and outreach, while identifying and screening patients for psychosocial needs.-Provides consultation services to other staff members regarding ethical issues in relation to the psychosocial needs of patients, the impact psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plans. Identifies high-risk patients and provides consultation services to other staff for emergent as well as ongoing case management services.-Provides initial crisis intervention services, seeks to address the cause of the present complaint, coordinates family conferences, and may serve as liaison to family members during inpatient stays. Incumbent can work with patients and families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric medical , and social problems utilizing individual, group and family counseling and therapy skills. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS11 grade level. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Senior Social Worker must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included and advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). In addition to the basic requirements above, the following is required to be appointed at the GS-12 grade level: Specialized Experience: At least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and (should be) in a specialized area of social work practice of which one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience would include: experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment; expert in a specialized area of practice; have certification or other post masters training a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSA's. Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area. Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. References: VA Handbook 5005/120, Part II, Appendix G 39 Physical Requirements: Much of the work occurs within a typical office setting, either individually or in meeting with others, or in meeting rooms. Requires time to be spent walking. The incumbent may be exposed to infectious diseases and medical/psychiatric emergencies.
