Duties

You will operate the engine and associated equipment onboard small craft. You will plot a course of navigation and make corrections as conditions warrant. You will perform line-up and transfer/pumping procedures on the various fluid systems. You will identify and correct discrepancies in equipment which may cause a hazard to personnel or property.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • Per E.O. 14043, selectee(s) must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by 11/22/2021 or date of employment (which ever comes later) except in limited circumstances where an exemption is approved due to a disability or sincerely held religious beliefs.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • The incumbent may be required to apply for an obtain a forklift license up to 3 to 7.5 ton (6000# to 15,000# capacity).
  • Incumbent will be required to become Facility Response Team and HSIRM qualified.
  • Will be required to attend CNIC Shore Installation Management Basic Boat Coxswain course as a boat crew member and complete the Personal Qualifications Standards for SIMBCC. Must qualify as 2nd class swimmer or BST prior to taking this course.
  • Must complete Job Qualifications Requirements and Personal Qualification Standards as assigned by the Installation Program Director.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Small Craft Operator without more than normal supervision; Operating and navigating a small craft through traffic; maintaining the craft using a prescribed maintenance plan; performing routine maintenance around the craft, and providing assistance to the Ship's Pilots, Dock master, and Pier master in the moving, docking, and undocking of waterborne craft and ships.
