This position is located with the SBA, Office of Human Resource Solutions. This position will involve specific administrative task/work assignments and a variety of activities and assignments, and working with technical, administrative, and professional staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience. The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of administrative operational assignments to support the efficiency of operation in the assigned office.
Duties
This position is established under the Small Business Administration (SBA) Intern Program. This is a temporary position not to exceed 90 days. This position may be extended for longer period of time if funding and need exists.
As a Student Trainee, you will actively engage in the following duties:
Receives telephone calls and visitors; using tact, diplomacy, and judgment, ascertains the nature of the calls or business of the visitors.
Word processing and document management; conducting basic research to support office projects; provides support in reviewing plans, procedures, and other office documents for grammatical errors and readability.
Reviews incoming correspondence and distributes correspondence to staff members and prepares replies
to general inquiries and routine actions. Maintains office files and ensures they are compliant with
applicable regulatory guidance and that confidential material is properly protected
Answers phones and transfers calls to appropriate individuals. Logs
trouble calls and ensures appropriate department is notified.

- Appointees must sign SBA Pathways Program Participant Agreement.
Qualifications
Student Internship Program Eligibility:
Current students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
To be eligible for appointment to a position in the Small Business Administration (SBA) Internship Program, throughout the duration of the appointment, an individual must:
Be currently enrolled or accepted as a student on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.
Be seeking a degree that is relevant to the position.
Must meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of their internship appointment.
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience prior to completion of degree.
Students who have graduated are not eligible for this position.
If selected you:
must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement;
may be employed throughout the academic year;
must maintain status as a current student;
maintain good academic standing, at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.
must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and
must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term.
GS-5: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following administrative support tasks: assisting staff and customers; reviewing documents; processing incoming and outgoing mail; sort and file; use software applications to generate written materials; serving as a point of contact for customers and maintaining data. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 06/10/2024.
Education
If you do not meet the specialized experience requirements, you may also qualify with education. You
MUST submit transcripts (official or unofficial) with this application if you wish to qualify based on education.
GS-5: Successful completion of 4 years of education above high school.
Combination of Experience and Education:
GS-5: Two full academic years of study (60 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to one year of specialized experience. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
