About the Position: These Security Guard positions are responsible for conducting internal and external patrols of the TRADOC HQ facilities, parking lots and grounds located at Fort Eustis, VA.
NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
Duties
Serves as an armed Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) for the U.S. Army TRADOC Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) at TRADOC HQS with the primary duty to provide protective services.
Security Guards must maintain a working knowledge of TRADOC’s emergency management plans and all associated security requirements, internal codes/alarms, and appropriate responses.
Performs duties at static and roving positions to direct visitors, vendors, and contractors to the appropriate office as needed.
Responds to all incidents, provides written reports of suspicious persons or items; quells disturbances; and subdues combative visitors or staff.
Conducts periodic parcel, package, container, and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from facility.
Monitors personnel access into designated restricted areas and intrusion detection system alarms using both manual and electronic methods (i.e., Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS)/Intrusion Detection System (IDS)).
Requirements
- This position is subject to the provisions the Lautenberg Amendment. Individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition are ineligible.
- In accordance with AR 190-56, requirements of the Individual Reliability Program apply.
- Incumbent may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants, TASER and baton.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- In accordance with AR 190-56, the incumbent must take and pass a Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure continued required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Incumbent is required to maintain proficiency, and qualify, in firearm use (testing conducted semi-annually). Failure to do so may be grounds for removal from the position and/or Federal service.
- Incumbent must successfully complete all required Security Guard training within six (6) months after appointment to this position.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Incumbent must successfully complete an initial and subsequent annual cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certification within six (6) months after appointment to this position
- Incumbent is required to wear a uniform, and maintain a high standard of appearance, grooming, and hygiene IAW AR 190-56.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergencies, incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing access control with a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information, and critical assets, recording visitor information, and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
