About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Space Plana Officer for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC) Deputy Chief of Staff, G-5 Plans, Strategy, and Policy Directorate in Colorado Springs, CO. The incumbent will develop, update, and produce space policies, strategies, and concepts; provide planning, coordination, and integration of Army forces and capabilities in support of space, high-altitude, and missile defense operations.
Duties
Conduct research regarding all aspects of space, missile defense, and high-altitude plans and operations to predict possible situations pertaining to upcoming missions.
Participate in the development of operational war plans, contingency plans, other supporting plans, strategies, policies, and concepts concerning Army space, missile defense, and high-altitude.
Serve as a planner and lead diverse operational planning teams (OPTs) of varied sizes incorporating internal and external experts and stakeholders to solve complex problems
Respond to detailed questions, make recommendations, and provide feedback on Joint Staff, service, and combatant command policies, strategies, and plans.
Provide subject matter expertise for planning, coordinating, resourcing, and integrating space, missile defense, and high-altitude into USASMDC, combatant command, service, and Joint strategies, campaign plans, and operations.
Provide deliberate, contingency, and crisis support planning for Army space, missile defense, and high-altitude in support of various commands and planners.
Develop and provide direction for USASMDC efforts with Security Cooperation and Allies and Partners.
Manage projects, planning groups, and attend all relevant command conferences as necessary; and educate and advocate for the use of USASMDC capabilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires you to travel from the duty station up to 10% of the time.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.

I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11/NH-2 level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Developing, updating, and producing space policies, strategies, and concepts; 2) Integrating Army space, high-altitude, and missile defense capabilities and systems into war plans, exercises, operations, and activities; 3) Leading operational planning teams (OPTs) to provide deliberate, contingency, and crisis support planning for global Army space, high-altitude, and missile defense forces and capabilities, ensuring organizational deadlines are met; and 4) Presenting information and decision recommendations to higher-level management.
