This Internship position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights and serves in support of programs. Individuals must have been accepted for enrollment or be enrolled during the current Spring 2024 and next upcoming Fall 2024 semester and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited/qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Duties

Performs a variety of administrative and/or clerical tasks related to the work of the program, staff, division, or team to which Assignments include work such as validating and processing documents which pertain to the organization’s work, Receives and files correspondence, records, reports, and other materials.

Requirements

  • The internship will expire 120 days after completion of the designated academic course of study, unless the participant is selected for non-competitive conversion under 5 CFR 362.204. Conversion are not guaranteed.

Qualifications

Program Eligibility Requirements: - Applicants must be currently enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) as a degree-seeking student at a qualifying accredited educational institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. - Applicants must be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution. - Be planning for or pursuing a degree in, or related to, the internship opportunity being advertised. Examples of relevant educational fields for this position include but are not limited to related disciplines that will allow applicants to qualify for the conversion requirements listed within the vacancy announcement upon graduation if the agency opts for conversion. Position Qualifications: Applicants must meet position qualifications requirements as shown below at the time of appointment. The agency must be able to verify that the education was completed successfully before the applicant can be appointed. Below is the education requirement to be qualified for this position: GS-04: Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree. One full academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours or the equivalent as defined by the accredited college or university. One full academic year of graduate education is defined as 18 semester hours or the equivalent as defined by the accredited college or university. Conversion Information: Candidates selected from this announcement may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service, provided that all terms of the Post Secondary Student Hiring Authority are met and there is an available position. Conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed and is at agency discretion. Post Secondary Student Interns may convert to a term or permanent position for which they qualify for (e.g., GS-05) as outlined in the Intern's Agreement. Upon conversion to the competitive service, this position will have a career ladder up to the GS-11 full performance level. To be eligible for conversion, you must satisfactorily complete all Program requirements: Be a United States citizen. Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Program prior to graduation. Complete all mandatory training requirements. Meet performance expectations and be recommended for conversion. Meet suitability requirements Has completed a course of study leading to a baccalaureate or graduate degree Management, General Schedule Qualifications Standards. Meet the position's Qualification Requirements of the associated occupational series as outlined in the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, General Schedule Qualifications Standards.

Education
