Duties
Serves as the Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist and as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Site Coordinator.
Administers the Safety and Occupational Health program for organizations engaged in warehousing operations, transportation of materials, equipment repair, maintenance and in administrative areas.
Develops and maintains site specific VPP program documentation, reports, and continuous safety improvements.
Advises on safety issues relating to receiving, storage, handling, and shipping of radioactive items and the disposal of radioactive waste, issues of radiation safety, compliance with and implementation of the Radiation Safety Program.
Analyzes and makes recommendations to management officials to implement new techniques, methods, and procedures to eliminate or control unsafe acts/conditions.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Exercising delegated managerial authority to plan, direct, coordinate and oversee safety operations and occupational health program elements over subordinate workers.
Giving advice, counsel, or instruction on both work and administrative matters.
Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
Identifying and implementing ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production and improvements to work operations.
Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
