About the Position: Serves as Lead Security Guard for the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA) and outlying buildings, responsible for the security of the NMUSA during assigned shift which includes security staff, visitors, property, material, and equipment.
Duties
Counsel employees on performance issues to guide them toward meeting established standards and goals. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job requirements. Provide on the job training in security techniques to new employees.
Protect government and personal property by using established measures. Maintain departmentally issued firearms or equipment to ensure operability.
Maintain state of readiness providing security and protection for high traffic/risk areas. Patrol restricted and limited access areas in accordance with regulations.
Alert patrols and supervisor of suspicious activities, unauthorized entry, fires, or other threats or hazards. Identify the critical processes and steps in reporting procedures to comply with established regulations.
Operate surveillance equipment to detect suspicious or illegal activities. Provide timely response to operational emergencies in order to effectively carry out the entry/exit control functions.
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Drug testing designated position and requires a pre-employment drug screen and random screening thereafter. Must sign the Department of the Army (DA) Form 5019, Condition of Employment.
- This position is designated as mission essential. Incumbent may be required to remain on duty or report for duty during severe weather or other installation closings.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- This position requires shift work. This position requires rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- A physical examination is required for this position. Must be willing to complete pre-employment and annual physical examinations. Incumbent must undergo and pass physical ability test annually in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 190 56.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Incumbent must wear a uniform, bullet proof vest and other security/law enforcement equipment.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain current required certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques.
- Incumbent must pass periodic proficiency examinations and qualify annually and semi-annually with assigned firearms.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes protecting personnel or property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; maintaining order and protecting life/personnel; and conducting security related training on various topics such as weapons, protection, traffic and crowd control. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
