About the Position: Serves as a Security Guard (Instructor)/Training Officer for the National Museum of the United States (NMUSA) in Fort Belvoir, VA

Duties
Recommends changes to and executes the facility barrier plan in support of Force Protection Operations.
Provides a diversified background in security matters and maintains knowledge and capability in all security guard operations.
Serves as the Security Force Range Master.
Identifies and implements changes in course materials and subjects for mandatory security guard training.
Responds to security guard’s reactions, questions, and difficulties grasping learning material.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Individual must pass a security check. Individual must not have any criminal convictions nor receive any while employed in this position.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- The incumbent must possess certifications of instructor-related courses or must obtain the necessary certifications within one year.
- Must be fully qualified to operate a Government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Incumbent must be able to pass initial and annual medical examinations.
- Employee must complete initial qualification with a 9mm Semi-Automatic pistol, be able to qualify annually and semi-annually or within the requirement of AR 190-56 and be proficient in any other required firearms.
- As a condition of employment and continued employment individual must not have any criminal convictions nor receive any while employed in this position.
- Employees and prospective employees of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; and when being considered for employment and periodically thereafter.
- Incumbents must successfully complete and pass entrance physical examinations and follow-up examinations as determined by the Guard Force Supervisor.
- Employee must wear a uniform, bullet proof vest and other security/law enforcement equipment to perform the duties.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Shift work is required in this position as well as work on weekends and holidays. In the event of an emergency (e.g., inclement weather, disaster coverage), employee may be required to report for duty outside of scheduled shift.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- This position may require temporary duty (TDY) business travel up to 10% of the time.
- Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as first responder in a medical emergency.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities. In some positions, the work may regularly involve lifting and carrying of heavy objects of 50 pounds or less, such as weapons.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed within the parameters of the museum and its surrounding area which encompasses parking areas, firing range and additional training facilities The work is performed both inside the museum and outside the facility regardless of inclement weather.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing lesson plans and testing materials according to policy on security subjects such as military police report writing, crime scene protection, tactical deployment of response forces; performing range control functions to include range scheduling and managing ammunition requirements; managing a range of law enforcement functions, actions and activities in the protection of life and property; and maintaining a training database for security events. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
