You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the NRMD-KB Project Superintendent for the Off Yard Operations Manager (Code 300N3), Nuclear Production (Code 300N), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide a pre-shift brief to subordinates on the transfer, handling, storage and accountability of RAM; assure adherence to established Radiological Control (RADCON) procedures and requirements.
You will coordinate, direct, and manage the work of assigned non-Shipyard personnel (assigned military workers, ships force, contracts, and non-Shipyard Federal employees).
You will participate in the physical inventory of all RAM stored outside radiological controlled areas within NNSY, onboard Naval Vessels within NNSY, and off-base work sites under NNSY cognizance on a monthly and semi-annual basis.
You will investigate deficiencies or accidents which were not fully resolved by subordinates, determine casual factors, and ways to prevent recurrences.
You will provide on the job training and oversight for new Radioactive material Controllers (RMC's) using NAVSEA and NPM Chapters and manuals.
You will verify the qualification status of any transportation driver utilized in transfer, handling, storage, and accountability of RAM (transportation drivers are required when transporting oversized items, requiring the use of trailers).
You will assure maintenance is up to date on varied types of moving vehicles utilized for the transfer and escort of RAM within NNSY and between NNSY and off-base work sites.
You will maintain the Thermo-Luminescent Dosimeter (TLD).
You will participate in the Radiological Emergency Response Organization.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying various processes in several trades sufficient to support planning transfers and accountability of radioactive or radioactively contaminated materials.
Experience interacting with the processes in several trades sufficient to support planning transfers and accountability of radioactive or radioactively contaminated materials.
Experience controlling accident/spill situations involving radioactive or radioactively contaminated materials.
Experience utilizing methods and techniques for minimizing exposure of personnel and equipment to ionizing radiation and/or radioactive contamination.
Experience preventing loss or spread of radioactive contamination by properly containing material which are radioactive and/or radioactively contaminated.
Experience utilizing specified traffic routes for transporting radioactive/radioactively contaminated components or material within Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Experience identifying locations of all radiologically controlled areas within the shipyard as specified by the RADCON office.
