You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN on the Radiological Material Accountablity Control Team (RAMACT), which is a division of the Radiological Work Family in the Operation Department, Kings Bay, GA detachment of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will plan and coordinate with various trades, assist crafts, and ships force the movement of RAM to and from naval Vessels, storage areas, nuclear tool rooms, and off-base work sites. You will plan and coordinate initial ship checks for the characterization and removal of RAM with Nuclear Engineering and for receipt with the Radiological Work Facility. You will account for and escort all RAM in transit within the Supply Department of NNSY.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience serving as a Radiological Control Technician protecting shipyard employees through prevention and control of nuclear incidents; Experience performing various phases of complicated radioactive systems projects; Experience assuring compliance with radiological safety requirements and recommending changes to improve the safety and efficiency of procedures; Experience monitoring work and testing procedures of all skill level trades; Experience evaluating various incidents and assume full control of activities, directing necessary emergency actions to contain radiation, minimize effects, determine causes, correct deficiencies, and identify mitigation practices.
