This position is located in the Department of Technology Services (DTS), Enterprise Operations Center (EOC), Infrastructure Operations Division (IOD), Infrastructure Opertions Branch (IOB).
Duties
The position requires excellent problem-solving skills working with cutting edge technologies. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for operational support, modification, maintenance and monitoring of networks and systems that are a part of the wide area network, public/private cloud, government cloud, wireless, and local area networks that are managed by the Enterprise Operations Center (EOC). Must have strong experience with networking configuration within Internet Data Center (IDC), Public/Private and Government Cloud (i.e., GCP, Azure, AWS, and Oracle), and WAN/LAN environments. The incumbent will be responsible for network engineering support services in the area of the Data Communications Network (DCN) Engineering Team, including but not limited to installing and configuring network equipment, monitoring network infrastructure health, patch management, and supporting connectivity to other networks on premises and in the cloud.
The incumbent of this position will be required to oversee network activity to ensure sound and secure operations and coordinating and monitoring multiple concurrent projects relating to the expansion and maintenance of existing and deployment of new network technologies-as a network engineer, capable of serving in many roles supporting the NOC. Daily collaboration and coordination with the Security Operations Center are required to ensure cloud and network security considerations are properly implemented in all service areas. The incumbent will focus on core network infrastructure, cloud networking, WAN and Edge infrastructure. The incumbent will be required to assist in overseeing efforts in the unified communications (UC) service areas to support the UC Team.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring operational readiness and maintenance of all EOC managed systems.
Developing methodologies and operational processes for continuous monitoring of the DCN to ensure that all EOC managed systems are performing within expected tolerances.
Collaborating and aligning with network and cloud architecture in design and feasibility, in supporting network solutions to deliver enterprise and business initiatives.
Overseeing the mitigation of all vulnerabilities associated with WAN and LAN managed network devices in accordance with the Judiciary Information Security Framework (JISF).
Collaborating with cross-functional teams and leveraging the suite of multi-cloud technologies integration in an optimized distributed on-prem integration.
Performing network traffic analysis and identifying network gaps/deficiencies; providing technical and leadership in implementing network enhancements.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams with transitional planning to integrate next-generation network technologies.
Collaborating with EOC IT Security Officer and IT Security Office (ITSO) to plan and maintain network systems, on premise and in the cloud, to adhere to the Judiciary Information Security Framework policies and standards.
Securing network resources from inappropriate access and other threats.
Addressing security related issues for network access and devices.
Conducting network tests and monitoring of network integrity, performance, and security to identify service issues and developing plans for remediation.
Maintaining and supporting network equipment and software systems, including firewalls, switches, WAPs and WLAN controllers, VOIP Infrastructure and other network related hardware and software on premise and in the cloud.
Preparing bandwidth assessments of Court WAN circuits upon request.
Troubleshooting network problems for Cloud CSP's, WAN, LAN, wireless communications, and security issues.
Documenting network diagrams, infrastructure, IP addressing schemes, routing, security policies, and load-sharing.
Developing and documenting network provisioning requirements and policies.
Providing capacity planning assistance to develop network resource requirement projections.
Supporting core Internet protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, QoS, etc.).
Installing and configuring Cisco network and security devices.
Managing IP addresses of currently allocated subnets as well as evolving to the new addressing policy for the enterprise architecture.
Supporting QoS, multicast, and content delivery.
Providing support as tier 3 escalation.
Identifying network problems and resolving in accordance with the EOC incident and problem management plan, policies, and procedures.
Coordinating resolution of circuit problems with third parties, including public carriers, ISP, and external vendors.
Providing weekly activity reports that highlight ongoing operational improvements.
Qualifications
Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience in ALL of the following:
Hands-on experience operating and maintaining a converged enterprise network;
Hands-on experience with Cisco Nexus and IOS-XE platforms;
Experience with Cisco Dynamic Multipoint VPN (DMPVPM) and Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC); and
LAN/WAN experience.
