The FBI Laboratory seeks a highly qualified specialist in complex site documentation and preservation, advanced LiDAR technology, surveying, and digital modeling at Quantico, VA. Duties
Apply technical design, documentation, CAD drafting, and modeling skills to forensic crime scene documentation and reconstruction techniques.
Apply advanced technology surveying collection knowledge and techniques, utilizing terrestrial LiDAR scanners and Total Station surveying instruments, to document complex environments. Develop curriculum and teach the next generation of advanced technology documentation teams.
Deploy to major crime scenes, to include: complex mass casualty events, post-blast events, and site preservation collects, to provide crime scene sketching and digital documentation using technologies such as total station, terrestrial LiDAR Scanning, hand scanning, GPS, drone photogrammetry, and other data collection technologies. Travel may be to remote locations and with short notice, requiring a rotational on call posture.
Use collected data such as pointclouds and CADD survey data to prepare technical scaled diagrams, 3-D digital models, 2-D and 3-D graphics, physical models, and interactive reconstruction exhibits utilizing digital modeling software. These products will directly support criminal, investigative, operational, and law enforcement matters.
Utilize specialized software packages within the AutoDesk and Adobe suites (i.e., AutoCAD, Illustrator, REVIT, RECAP). Experience in pointcloud data processing software such as FARO SCENE, Leica Cyclone, and Cloud Compare.
Research and develop innovative workflows in software and technology advancements to support law enforcement entities in crime scene documentation and reconstruction efforts.
Qualifications
GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
Experience in using Autodesk and Adobe products such as AutoCAD, Illustrator, Photoshop, REVIT, RECAP, 3DS Max, Inventor, etc. including any experience using specialty software such as Rhinoceros, Solid Works, Spatial Analyst, Quick Time Modeler and Cloud Compare, and be able to provide graphic design services, including basic scaled diagrams, renderings, and illustrations in 2D and 3D.
Experience in fabrication, 3D Printing and/or 3D physical modeling using various materials such as plastics, metals, and wood.
Basic knowledge in fabrication shop operations, including structural design, prototyping, fabrication and construction of customized tools and equipment to include scaled models.
GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
Knowledge and professional experience in forensic documentation and product assignments involving a combination of data collection, diagram development, digital scene reconstruction and custom fabrication.
Knowledge and experience in forensic documentation equipment and technologies such as total station, LiDAR Scanning, and/or photogrammetry.
Can formulate documentation details such as elevations, sections, and isometric scaled views.
Education
All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
