The largest and most comprehensive crime lab in the world, the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, VA, seeks a qualified candidate with experience and training in forensic art and graphic design. Opportunities include producing innovative forensic art products and multimedia graphics in support of investigations and prosecutions.
Duties
Serve as an SME in applying the concepts, principles and methods of graphic design, including typography, composition, and color theory to products for criminal, investigative, operational and law enforcement matters.
Utilize specialized software packages within the Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) to create visual products, including diagrams, branding, publications, illustrations and infographics.
Produce composite drawings based on a visual description provided by a witness within a cognitive interview.
Produce age progressions and other advanced facial image modifications using Adobe Photoshop.
Create three-dimensional facial approximations/reconstructions with clay sculpture and/or 3D digital modeling software (i.e., Zbrush).
Deploy to major crime scenes, including shootings and bombings, to provide crime scene sketching and other visual services. Travel may be to remote locations and with short notice.
Qualifications
GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
Experience in using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and be able to provide common graphic design services, including publication design, branding, and illustration.
Knowledge in several forensic facial imaging tasks, including composite sketching, digital photo retouch, facial age progression, and facial approximation/reconstruction.
Experience in sculpture and/or 3D modeling.
GS 12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
Knowledge and professional experience in forensic art assignments involving a combination of composite sketching, digital photo retouch, age progression, and facial approximation/reconstruction.
Samples of work or other suitable evidence of technical competence will be required during the job interview.
Education
All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:
GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in one of the following fields of study: geospatial analysis, geospatial information systems, photogrammetry, cartography, remote sensing, or other GIS related fields.
