About the Position: Incumbent serves as an Allied Integration Specialist for the Allied Integration Division, for the Director, Strategy, Policy, and Plans (J5), U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM). Reports to Division Chief for Allied Integration Division. Incumbent is an Allied Integration Specialist who is focused on actioning the Allied element of USSOUTHCOM's integrated deterrence efforts.
Duties
Maintain a baseline understanding of Allied political-military issues which impact USSOUTHCOM's Area of Responsibility.
Identify political-military issues for current and future impact on the Command so as to conduct analysis of their implications and alternatives
Provide critical recommendations regarding how Allied centric political-military issues affect U.S.
Conduct analysis with finished intelligence products, to generate political-military fact sheets, information papers, decision papers and other products for the Command.
Coordinate all activities across Command staff, service components, country teams, the Joint Staff, Deptartment of Defense and Department of State headquarters staffs, federal law enforcement agencies, and congressional staffs, as required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a Security Clearance at the TOP SECRET/Special Sensitive Level as the incumbent will be required to access, process, use, and safeguard classified National Defense information.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience initiating a wide variety of special research, strategic development, analytical studies, planning efforts, and political military actions having major near-term and long-term effects on the Command's mission in Latin America and the Caribbean; understanding of military and geopolitics; experience in international relations within multilateral constructs sufficient for making recommendations for policy, plans, and strategy options regarding prioritization and linkage of critical Allied efforts; defining solutions; providing recommendations; generating political-military fact sheets, info papers, decision papers and other products; constructing and presenting briefs to Command leaders and senior staff; and coordinating visits of a political-military nature, by foreign officers, senior officials, foreign service academies, and other professional military groups and representatives.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
