Duties
As Microbiologist, you will:
Coordinator for an environmental microbiology laboratory that works with numerous partners.
Adapt and develop multiple culture, PCR, genomic, and other AR detection methods for use in wastewater testing.
Provide rigorous optimization and validation of test methods to fulfill quality management standards.
Rigorous optimization and validation are needed to ensure test efficacy before employing them or sharing protocols with partners.
Manage a laboratory which include coordinate laboratory training, equipment maintenance, supply ordering, and day to day research activity.
Communicate with leadership to maintain the production of high-quality research in a safe working environment.
Qualifications
Desired Qualification Requirements/Experience:
Antimicrobial resistant organisms, environmental sampling, and wastewater testing, as well as experience in laboratory management, partnership coordination, public health/healthcare intersection, organizational excellence, priority setting, writing and communicating effectively.

Applicants must currently occupy a full-time Career or Career Conditional competitive service position within CDC/ATSDR or an Excepted Service position under the Schedule A, Schedule B, or Veterans Recruitment Appointment Authority within the CDC/ATSDR or Commissioned Corps equivalent, unless otherwise specified in the Announcement.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Education
1. Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.

2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
