This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Positions in the Competitive Service to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Operations & Maintenance Division at Fort Riley, KS.

Duties

Brushes clean and vacuums coils, fan, squirrel cage, blower assemblies, motor, drip pan and condensate line (on units used for air conditioning). Lubricates motors that do not have sealed bearings. Replaces air filter(s) ensuring there are no air leaks. If filters are washable, washes thoroughly, removing all dirt and grime, thoroughly rinses and reinstalls. Checks all structural, mechanical and electrical (including wiring) for integrity and functionability. Problems (including functionability) are to be noted. Cleans fresh air intake louvers, screen blowers, and motors by brush and vacuum to remove any accumulation of dirt and grime. Lubricates shaft bearings, motor and damper motor when acceptable according to manufacturer's recommendations. Brush, cleans, and vacuums coils and motor blower, drip pan, air intake louvers and condensate line to remove any accumulation of dust and grime.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer such as a respirator.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a Government Driver's License to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires a universal certification for handling fluorocarbons (CFC’s)

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform commontasks of cleaning air vents and heating coils, use HVAC cleaning supplies and devises and clean and oil equipment properly to ensure proper and safe operations. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Light to medium physical effort is required in performing work. Work requires some standing, stooping, walking and lifting of items up to 50 pounds. Occasionally handles items weighing up to 100 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and in cramped positions. Some of the work may be performed outside. Exposed to chemicals when cleaning filters. Use protective clothing and devices for asbestos work in the removal of asbestos in areas of high temperature and high humidity.
