This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serve as an Industrial Equipment Mechanic (MVO) for USAG Fort Riley, Directorate of Public Works at Fort Riley, KS.
Duties
Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning units, large systems, and supporting equipment.
Determines causes of defects and malfunctions on assigned refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment and of power boilers and equipment.
Determines repairs needed and repairs, adjusts, and replaces parts.
Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies water supply, sewage disposal, oil and gas lines, and similar utility systems and equipment.
Responsible for the proper handling of specific hazardous wastes generated by the unit, activity or facility; operation of hazardous waste generation point, and supervising or assisting in emergency action involving hazardous wastes.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
- For WG-08 - This position is required to obtain and maintain a certificate of handling refrigerants, within 6 months of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

WG-10 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Mechanic (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common repair and installation of commercial and industrial refrigeration and heating, air conditioning and ventilation (HVAC) units, as well as trouble shoot other industrial commercial systems such as boilers, water supply systems, gas lines and sewer systems. Utilize electrical and plumbing methods and techniques to perform maintenance and troubleshoot utility systems equipment and machinery, as well as conduct functional tests to assure safe operating conditions.
- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position requires you to possess and maintain a certificate for handling refrigerants to qualify for WG-10. Note: you must upload the certification to meet the requirement for the WG-10 position.

The ability to perform common repair and installation of commercial and industrial refrigeration and heating, air conditioning and ventilation (HVAC) units, as well as trouble shoot other industrial commercial systems such as boilers, water supply systems, gas lines and sewer systems. Utilize electrical and/or plumbing methods and techniques to perform maintenance and troubleshoot utility systems equipment and machinery. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort:
Lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance.
Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach.
Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods.
Work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment.
Working Conditions:
Works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas.
Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids.
Subject to possible burns from refrigerants.
Works near moving parts of equipment and machinery, energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, loud noises, and toxic fumes, which could cause cuts, burns, and respirator ailments.
May be subject to sudden and frequent temperature changes.
May be required to wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, ear protection and hard hats.
