These positions are located in the Office of Research Nursing (ORN), Office of the Clinical Director (OCD), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Qualifications
In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must have:
A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools;
AND
Passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN);
AND
A current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional Qualification Requirements:
In addition to the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must meet the Additional Qualification Requirement listed below for each grade level:
GS-11:
Completion of a Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree, from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field;
OR
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing specialized knowledge on research protocols in a clinical research environment; utilizing advanced critical nursing skills in coordinating care for individuals who are participants in a clinical trials research program; providing ongoing education and counseling to patient and family on all aspects regarding protocol participation; interpreting clinical test results; maintaining an automated database management system to collect, organize and report information on clinical trials; overseeing all phases of data management to include data collection, entry, validation, reporting and analysis; defining criteria for dose modifications and/or other modifications of treatment regimen; and managing required evaluation to confirm study eligibility and baseline measurements of all parameters to be evaluated on the study.
GS-12:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing specialized nursing care in a clinical research environment; implementing program outreach and patient recruitment initiatives for research programs; recruiting and screening new patients and assessing their eligibility for clinical trials; taking care of cancer patients and managing specific nursing aspects of clinical protocols within a research program; providing patient and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate; and discussing with patients, volunteers, and family members the basis of treatment protocols, clinical trials, or research studies as well as the roles of various team members, protocol specifics and anticipated schedule of events.
GS-13:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, designing, and developing clinical research protocols; providing specialized nursing care to cancer patients in a research environment; participating as a multidisciplinary team member involved in clinical trials including well established communication skills and proficiency in organizing, implementing, coordinating complex treatment and research plans; providing patient and family education and counseling; providing clinical trial design, coordinating and implementing, data, and study data management; and evaluating trends in research study outcomes and compliance, in order to contribute to the design of research studies.
