About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) is a small organization with a mission critical to our national defense. Our job is to process applicants for all five services into the armed forces. The job is both challenging and rewarding. For most new military service members, processing through the MEPS is the first real exposure to a military operation. For that reason, we seek customer-oriented employees with a desire to serve their country in a meaningful way.
Duties
Fingerprint applicants/recruits in accordance with guidance
Assembles applicants, administers briefings, and instructs applicants on procedures.
Provides administrative assistance with transportation functions of moving personnel.
Operates a variety of office automation equipment to prepare documents.
Enters data in Command automated system(s) to record applicant processing information.
Coordinate travel arrangements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 30% of the time.
- Position may require occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
- Position requires the incumbent to be able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
- Position may be required to perform occasional overnight travel as assigned.
- Position will routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements,

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) preparing and processing travel orders through an automated system; 2) making travel arrangements for personnel; 3) fingerprinting applicants and/or processing fingerprints electronically; and 4) interviewing applicants to obtain and verify data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
PLEASE NOTE: For GS-05: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
