About the Position: Serves as the principal surgical scheduler for the Surgical Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology in a medical treatment facility as principal point of contact for Surgery Scheduling System and surgical database. Compiles scheduling information and resolves scheduling -related problems.

Duties
As a principle surgical scheduler, manages pre- and post- surgical appointment requirements to ensure readiness for patient visit or procedures.
Review scheduling information and resolve scheduling issues.
Provide customer service by forwarding phone calls, greeting visitors and beneficiaries, and answering their concerns.
Manages appointments and consultation for pre-op and post-op procedures.
Ensure that operating room space is requested and approved based on coordinated surgery dates and times.
Confirm patient eligibility for treatment using automated systems such as Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) or identification card.
Prepare memorandums, reports, and/or correspondence for the surgeons and higher echelon.
Communicate with Medical Professionals, Management, and other higher echelons regarding scheduling.
Register patients in for appointments, schedule appointments, and assist front desk staff as needed.
Perform office automation work, including spreadsheet application, database management, and a variety of clerical functions in support of the customers and health care personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

- This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct. 96, which requires the incumbent to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) managing scheduling using automated surgery scheduling systems such as MHS Genesis; and 2) scheduling appointments, preparing, and updating reports and data processing; and 3) advising medical personnel, staff and/or management regarding scheduling, template or database management; and 4) prepare memorandums, reports, and/or correspondence for surgeons and/or higher echelon. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Management, Public Health Administration, or related fields such as Business or Public Administration with course work in Healthcare Administration.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
