You will serve as a STRUCTURAL SHOP SUPERVISOR in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. **TEMPORARY PROMOTION NOT EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT. **

Duties

You will work at various times in the project planning and management, project scheduling and sequencing, and work packaging and control processes during the course of the project. You will provide input into the development of the project execution strategy and ensuring that work is done only when identified in the work package and released by work packaging and control. You will provide short and long range planning; determining work priorities; conducting periodic cost and schedule adherence analysis. You will plan, schedule and assign work to subordinate employees and shop planners.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position requires completion of 1LS and 2LS Supervisory Courses and applicable qualification card per NAVSHIPYARD PTSMH INST 12411.3B. Must attend Project Management Fundamentals (PMF) Course.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience in shop work operations and practices of the various trades in the shipyard. Experience managing non-nuclear projects including fabrication work, contract work, shop work, ship work, and other productive work. Experience planning, coordinating, and managing the work of subordinate personnel. Experience in project management, production control, quality control, cost control, maintenance operations in support of ship repair projects. Experience communicating both in writing and orally to inform, persuade, negotiate, advise, and train others.
