You will serve as a DEPUTY NUCLEAR PRODUCTION MANAGER in the NUCLEAR PRODUCTION MANAGER, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. ***TEMPORARY PROMOTION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT without further competition***

Duties

You will exercise line authority in a Deputy capacity to the Nuclear Production Manager’s staff for nuclear matters relative to construction, repair, overhaul, testing, and refueling of naval reactor plants. You will serve as technical advisor and full assistant to the Nuclear Production Manager for all Production Resource and Operations Departments programs for nuclear quality and radiological controls. You will exercise line authority on naval reactor plants, nuclear work which includes the production effort to refurbish reactor plant spare components, long term storage and refurbishment of refueling equipment and components.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Experience working with the principles and processes related to Production Resource to include overhauling, repairing, refueling, and testing naval reactor plants. * Experience applying the latest technical developments to ensure that latest concepts are reflected in current operations, future plans and decisions. * Experience structuring Nuclear training program for Production Resource Personnel that incorporates Dept. of Navy (DON) and Dept. of Energy (DOE) directives as well as NAVSEA instructions, manuals, specifications, and Shipyard regulations/directives. * Experience monitoring Nuclear Production Operations to identify areas which need improvement.
