This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
Duties
The AI Safety Program and Policy Analyst provides analytical and management support to the
Director of the U.S. AI Safety Institute, and NIST leadership on issues related to AI and AI Safety
policy. The incumbent develops analysis of legislation, policy and programmatic proposals
relevant to the NIST and the AI Safety Institute. Responsibilities include the development of
briefing papers, talking points, speeches, for the AISI Director and other NIST principles. Helps
spearhead and manage high-impact projects. Assisting with the planning and organization of
meetings and events to advance the goals of the AI Safety Institute. Tracking and developing
reports on AI Safety Institute metrics and milestones.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements, ZA-III: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 (ZA-II at NIST) grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing administrative support to a team or program; AND - Cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships with parties external to your own business unit.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
