The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Information Technology ( IT) specialist responsible for group level administration, operation, and maintenance of the group's computer network and for providing technical assistance, training, and support to management and customers.
Duties
Administers the squadron local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN).
Determines customer requirements and assists customers by recognizing and analyzing trends and providing instruction and orientation services.
Provides customer technical assistance and support.
Conducts feasibility studies to identify and analyze network failures.

- Additional/Embedded Duty: This position includes information assurance (IA) work as an additional duty.
- A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, CJ.2.4.2 or CJ.2.4.3.
- Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in the reassignment of this additional duty to another employee within the organization.
- Per DoD 8570.01-M, the recipient of this additional duty must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
Qualifications
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, 2210 (Alternative A). Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: This standard allows eligibility through meeting either the requirements specified in the section titled Education or the requirements specified in the section titled Experience.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have, or will have within 120 days of closing of this announcement, one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 (or higher) grade level or equivalent in other pay systems (may have been obtained in the military, public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience includes Information Technology (IT) experience that includes being responsible for group level administration, operation and maintenance of the group's computer network and for providing technical assistance training, and support to management and customers. Additionally, I have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four following competencies: 1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. 3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions
Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing. operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements.
Knowledge of the network architecture, topology, and protocols typically found at base and lower-level organizations.
Knowledge of configuration management concepts and practices to develop and implement plans for LANs and WANs.
Knowledge of customer support principles sufficient to receive, respond to, and ensure complete resolution of problems.
Knowledge of network customer use and systems maintenance sufficient to give needed guidance or training to customers and workgroup managers to prevent problem recurrences.
Ability to communicate factual and procedural information clearly, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
