You will serve as a SUPERVISORY RANGE CONTROL OFFICER for San Clemente Island Range Complex, FLT AREA CONTROL SURVEILLANCE FAC.

Duties

You will provide range control management of the air, sea, undersea, and land within the San Clemente Island Range Complex (SCIRC). You will carry out the Range Safety Program to include supervision and oversight of military, civilians, contractors, and range control personnel. You will recognize hazards, achieve compliance with regulatory provisions and effectively communicate multiple safety and occupational health practices and procedures to staff, line, and military personnel using the range for training exercises. You will evaluate the command's policies and programs for content, applicability, and compliance with guiding policy, instructions, and sound training complex procedures. You will evaluate, coordinate and approve or disapprove all live fire and high threat activities conducted in the training complex. You will provide technical recommendations and maintain full authority and responsibility for providing fleet users with range and training area support.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You will be required to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying knowledge of military range operations, concepts, and practices to plan or develop range control programs and functions (e.g. safety, management, operations, maintenance programs, etc.) in support of a range complex to ensure Fleet access to training areas.
