About the Position: this position is located with the 404TH Army Field Support Brigade Logistics Readiness Center, Maintenance Division ground Maintenance Branch, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington.
Duties
Perform operator maintenance on heavy duty equipment cleaning and reinstalling parts.
Overhaul engines and reconnect fuel, oil water, air, and hydraulic line to meet requirements for heavy equipment.
Report vehicle performance malfunctions and recommendations to supervisor.
Spot check work during engine overhauling.
Operate motor vehicles, pickup trucks, and carryalls, sedans over public roads to transport supplies, materials and equipment.
Determine which tools to use depending on scope of work to be completed.
Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain a HAZMAT training and certification within 180 days from the date of employment.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Must obtain and maintain Forklift training and certification within 180 days from the date of employment.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain National Agency Check With Written Inquiries (NACI) (Tier 1)
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer (Fork Lift Operator / Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. Perform common repairs on multi-system transmissions on heavy equipment. I can repair and replace cracked fittings, hoses, belts and filters. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Worker makes repairs when vehicle is overhead and where parts are in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifts and carries items weighing about 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside and outside where it is drafty and noisy and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Protective equipment and devices (e.g., ear plugs, filter masks, sound attenuators, etc.) are issued to minimize risks. Incumbent frequently stands on hard surfaces for long periods. At times crawls under vehicles or equipment and makes repairs while on hard, usually damp surfaces.
