You will serve as an ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, PIPE SHOP with the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will perform work of limited skills which does not require the all-around skills of an electronic industrial controls mechanic journeyman. You will make minor electronic modifications on equipment when required to improve maintenance and operation. You will align and calibrate equipment according to calibration standards and alignment procedures, occasionally using schematics and available technical data. You will immediately report any observed or suspected violation of cleanliness, defective material, or workmanship.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, test, and install industrial electronics-controlled equipment. Ability to test, repair, and replace components and parts such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes, integrated circuits, regulated power supplies, relays, switches, and motor drive controls. Ability to use a wide variety of sophisticated test equipment such as digital voltmeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, and line monitors. Ability to work on microprocessors, computers and associated peripheral equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and wiring diagrams, electronic schematics, computer logic circuits, and technical procedures and data from technical manuals.
