You will serve as a ELECTRONIC INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS MECHANIC LEADER in the CRANE MAINTENANCE DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will lead the work of electronic industrial controls mechanics and apprentices. You will resolve work related problems and take necessary corrective action to overcome delays, bottlenecks and equipment downtime. You will inspect work-in-progress and upon completion to ensure efficiency, economy, and safety of operations. You will train subordinates in work methods and procedures, operation of new equipment, safety regulations, and policies.

Requirements

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE; Leading a group of subordinates to accomplish daily work related functions of the electronic mechanic trade. Determining various types of requisitioning tools, materials, and equipment needed for projects. Overseeing the planning of work sequences for groups of employees. Interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, technical procedures, and computer logic circuits to relay work instructions. Must be familiar with mathematics, such as Algebra, in order to troubleshoot the more complex logic circuits in computers and microprocessors.
