The Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center is a Department of Veterans Affairs Center of Excellence for Rehabilitation Research and Development located at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center (LSCVAMC). The Center focuses on the practical medical needs of individuals disabled by sensorimotor dysfunction, cognitive deficits, or limb loss and creates assistive technologies that facilitate compliance within the rehabilitation community and commercialization by outside manufacturers.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as ; uses purchase cards for all purchases where the card is accepted and amounts are within their authorized spending limits, performs purchase card reconciliation within policy time frames, performs appropriate market research and documents the same to ensure compliance, manages timekeeping requirements for assigned work unit, supports activity of the director of operations, such as reports, scheduling meetings and other projects, screens telephone and visitors, resolving inquiries at the lowest level to avoid staff disruption, assists guest speakers with travel, honoraria, and making special arrangements for research participants, reads incoming mail and composes answers to routine letters and inquiries, directing the rest to appropriate personnel. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, GS level (if a federal position), duties, month & year starting and ending dates AND hours worked per week.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 4 years of education above the high school level that was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Transcripts required.

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education in excess of the first 60 semesters hours (beyond the second year) towards meeting the 4 years of education above the high school level.
