About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide direct support to a four-star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also works with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service, inter-agency and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American nations and peoples are substantial.
Duties
Provide expertise, capabilities and supervision required to facilitate military decision-making processes to develop feasible courses of action.
Provide recommendations for engagement, coordination, synchronization and employment of military and/or other elements of national power.
Facilitate the development and establishment of target execution functions, the development and maintenance of the Joint Integrated Prioritized Target List (JIPTL).
Lead the coordination of operational execution of assigned Joint, HQ USSOUTHCOM, and U.S. Government Inter-agency actions focused against priority threat networks and associated targets throughout the HQ USSOUTHCOM AOR.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Business travel can be anticipated. Travel by military and/or commercial aircraft may be required in attending training, visiting other activities, and/or attending conferences up to 25% of the time.
- This position is subject to uncommon tours of duty and/or shift work. Employee may be recalled to duty with little or no notice.
- This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Incumbent must perform occasional travel away from the normal duty station, and must be willing and able to travel on military/commercial aircraft, vessels, and/or vehicles. Locations may vary from U.S. facilities to remote, austere locations.
- May be subject to extended TDY or worldwide deployments during crisis situations to perform mission essential functions as determined by management.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes facilitating military decision-making processes to develop feasible courses of action to identify threat networks; orchestrating the coordination of operational execution of actions focused against priority threat networks and associated targets; developing Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs), and Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), Battle Rhythm, Scheduling, Standardization of Briefing Products, Summary Messages, Fragmentary Orders, Staff Papers and Provide subject matter expertise of Joint Fire Support (JP 3-09), and Joint Targeting (JP 3-60) during the planning and execution of military operations during crisis and steady state operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
