The Program Support Assistant performs various administrative and clerical duties in support of the Home and Community Care (H&CBC) division of Geriatrics and Extended Care. These programs include Purchased Skilled Home Care (PSHC), Homemaker, Home Health Aide (H/HHA), Community Adult Day Health Care (CADHC), Home Hospice, among others. These programs require clinical and administrative quality oversight in order to meet applicable mandated standards.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Serves as a point of contact on behalf of the Home and Community Care (H&CBC), division of Geriatrics and Extended Care, works closely with management, medical, and VISN staff, vendors, as well as patients.
Collects, compiles, tracks and maintained statistical data for all assigned programs, and submits required monthly and quarterly reports.
Establishes protocols for incoming data, organizes and maintains patients' data.
Participates in performance improvement activities related to program quality.
Operates computer Software, such as, but not limited to VISTA, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Prepares all financial reports, oversee expenditures, and assist with budget projections.
Provides excellent customer service to all internal and external customers.
Serves as liaison to other areas within Medical Center, VA facilities, the VISN office and community agencies.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers, constructively and appropriately.
Performs related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/24/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Typing Requirement- The Program Support Assistant (Office Automation) requires incumbent to type 40 words per minute (WPM)
Preferred Experience:
Experience in Non-Institutional Care program support, providing administrative support as an office clerk, compiling and tracking data, working in HSRM Community Care programs and interacting with community agencies
Minimum Qualification- You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Communicating effectively and providing excellent customer service skills to all internal and external customers both written and orally. Collecting, compiling, and tracking of statistical information using various application software to prepare reports for planning, reviewing, and reporting. Establishing and maintaining program files and patient records utilizing several computer programs.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is partly sedentary, using the computer for parts of the day. Walking to other parts of the facility may be necessary. Some bending and standing is required.
