This position is located at the Baltimore National Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland.
Duties
This is a bargaining unit position. This position is represented by NAGE. Please note that as provided for in the NAGE/VA Master Agreement the FIRST area of consideration for this position will be permanent employees of the local facility in which this position is being filled, the SECOND area of consideration will be employees at other VA facilities, and the THIRD area of consideration will be all other eligibles.
The incumbent performs all types of maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices. Incumbent will perform building maintenance such as Plumbing, Electrical, Roofing, Carpentry, Masonry, Cement Work, Painting, HVAC Units, and other related trades at Baltimore National Cemetery. Work may also include small engine repair work and service of other equipment. Work will include, but is not limited to, replacing, or repairing of water faucets, broken pipes, clogged drains, electrical fixtures, switches/receptacles, and thermostats. Replaces or changes filters, fuses, light bulbs, ceiling tiles and partitions for workstations. Repairs to include but not limited to roofs, drywall, road curbing, fences/gates, office furniture, floor covering, tile, baseboards, siding and paneling. Constructs and erects shelving, benches, grave covers, fences, and gates.
Incumbent will be expected to acquire within twelve months of hiring, and maintain, a certification as a Level II Contracting Officer Representative (COR); perform the duties of a Level II COR according to training and established regulations; for contracts involving facilities maintenance and repair, monument and marker maintenance, repair, and cleaning, and as designated by the Cemetery Director.
Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

Qualifications

Your background must demonstrate a general knowledge of a variety of trades such as masonry & cement finishing, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and painting to be able to maintain and keep in good repair buildings, fences, roads, curbs, exterior walls and other cement & masonry structures, water systems, sewage systems, electrical, as well as heating & air conditioning systems, and general small engine and equipment repair knowledge.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: This position requires moderate to heavy physical effort with reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate different controls on various types of equipment. Work requires frequent bending stooping, kneeling, walking and exposure to constant vibrations and jolting caused by movement of equipment over uneven and rough terrain and running of other power tools. Position may require lifting and moving weight exceeding 50 pounds with or without assistance.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in all types of weather, ranging from hot and humid to wet, windy and cold. Working conditions also include dust, dirt, mud, and water. At all times, the wearing of safety shoes and personal protective equipment is required.
