The Pharmacy Technician functions under the direction of the Anticoagulation Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) in the centralized Anticoagulation Clinic, while directly reporting under the matrix supervision of the assigned Supervisor and the Associate Chief for Clinical and Education Services. All duties of the Clinical Pharmacy Technician will be performed under the direct supervision of the assigned Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner.
Duties
Duties to include but not limited to:
Understand and interpret clinical and technical issues brought to the attention of the individual
Communicate effectively regarding complex clinical and technical issues to the appropriate
Transport themselves to different areas of the facility
Independently utilize an electronic healthcare record including but not limited do recording encounter documentation, entering medication or lab orders. and updating medication lists/allergies
Identify physical and clinical differences between pharmaceutical products
Identify physical and clinical differences between pharmaceutical labeling/packaging
Compound or prepare pharmaceutical products per facility guidance
Possess extremity dexterity for gross and fine manipulation of objects
Prioritize operational and assigned clinical functions to provide the highest quality of patient care.
Report all potential patient or pharmacy distribution problems verbally and/or in writing as requested by the clinical pharmacist or pharmacy practitioner in the assigned area.
Checks daily for missed check-outs and no shows. Troubleshoot and attempt to resolve patient discrepancies and judge adherence to appointment schedules.
Enter orders for lab tests
Promote harmonious relationships within the work environment supporting the needs of the team and the patient.
Communicate and follow-up on requests in a timely manner based on the needs of the clinic team/supervisor(s).
Communicate both orally and in writing in a manner that supports the needs of the customer and supports harmonious relationships within the team.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English proficiency
PTCB or NHA certification
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Experience: Candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7) and demonstrate the KSAs below.
Grade Determinations: The candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs for all GS-08 assignments and meet any additional KSAs for the assignment, if indicated:
Expert knowledge serving as a key resource advising others in their particular specialty area or section of the pharmacy (such as procurement, sterile compounding (USP compounding standards), controlled substances DEA, automation, clinical pharmacy, lead tech, contact center, etc.).
Skill in analyzing data for self-driven (independent) performance improvement projects, workload analysis and statistical reports.
Skill in solving problems and implementing corrective actions to maximize outcomes in their program area.
Ability to maintain special accreditations and prepare for national reviews/inspections (e.g., The Joint Commission, Inspector General, American Society of Health System Pharmacists®, controlled substance inspections).
Ability to develop training programs and material for orientation, competency development and educational needs for regulatory requirements within the specialized pharmacy program area.
