About the Position: Serves as an Assistant Professor (Japanese Academic Specialist) for Continuing Education, Language, Regional Expertise and Culture (LREC) located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) offers foreign language instruction in more than 13 languages on a schedule that extends throughout the year. Courses are taught six hours per day, five days a week, with the exception of federal holidays and training holidays.

Duties

Lead and manage language curriculum development projects from inception to completion, ensuring that all products are delivered on time and to the required quality standards. When assigned to a curriculum development project as a project lead a team of curriculum developers - Monitor and provide feedback. Work with the subject matter experts to create pedagogically sound foreign language instructional materials that cover a variety of subject areas and range from level 0 up to level 3 on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale. Effectively integrate technology to support the design, development, and delivery of pedagogically sound instructional materials. Use the latest research in second language acquisition and language teaching to establish curriculum development processes and create lesson/activity templates. Participate in the evaluation of language program curricula. Faculty members teach listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, as well as geopolitical, economic, and social issues, in an immersion-based environment. Develop assessment guides, handbooks, and other instructional materials.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens and non-US Citizens with valid US Work Authorization. This position is a TERM time limited position tenure track. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 13 months, and may be extended upon mission, funding and management discretion. Applicants who do not possess a current, valid U.S. work authorization may not be appointed for 13 months but will receive an appointment aligned to their work authorization status, to include those who may only be appointed for less than one year, who will receive a TEMPORARY Tenure 0 appointment. This position is a TERM time limited position, tenure track. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 13 months, and may be extended upon mission, funding and management discretion. POSITION WILL BE FILLED AT ONE RANK: AD-1701-04 Assistant Professor. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant work experience and education level (degree and year awarded); official transcripts/foreign transcript evaluation will be requested upon selection. Must be able to speak, read and write in English fluently. Must be able to speak, read and write in Japanese fluently. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Basic Requirement: Bachelor's degree with a major or minor in Foreign Language Education, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESOL/TEFL), Linguistics, Language (English included), Second Language Acquisition Literature, Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Translation & Interpretation, Cross-Cultural Studies, or Educational Administration. (NOTE: Attach a copy of your transcripts for verification). AND Two years of specialized experience which is defined as formal classroom instruction of a language foreign to adult learners. Formal classroom instruction normally includes such activities as class preparation, course preparation/modification, testing, tutoring, and counseling in a structured, education environment. In addition, at least two years' experience in diagnostic assessment, and curriculum development.
