About the Position: This position is with the Office Chief of Staff Operations, Plans, Legislation and Policy in Alexandria, VA.
Duties
Support the Director’s objectives for educational excellence within DoDEA to encourage student excellence and educational outcomes.
Represent DoDEA by working with the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) officials to initiate, review and/or revise DoD Directives, Instructions, and other issuances which impact DoDEA.
Organize working groups or work with SMEs (at times remotely) to research, design, coordinate, implement and/or evaluate legislative issues with high turn around and need for high accuracy.
Serve as an expert on DoDEA policy, procedural and/or legislative issuances pertaining affecting DoDEA, including those internal and external to DoDEA.
Advise senior staff and/or other officials in the Department of Defense on the impact of policies on students.
Performs a full range of first-level supervisory responsibilities.
Monitor and provide analysis of congressional and administrative actions (e.g., legislation, congressional climate, executive orders) to senior DoDEA leadership to assist them on when action is appropriate on behalf of DoDEA
Draft communications to high level officials (e.g., DoDEA leadership, OSD Leadership, congressional leadership, and administration) in forms of letters, information papers, or briefings on a wide range of DoDEA matters.
Interviews candidates for positions in the unit and recommends selection
Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher-level supervisor or manager.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.

- One year trial or probationary period may be required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
- One year supervisory probation period may be required.

- Duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Collaborating with subject matter experts for legislative affairs; Identifying policy needs of programs; Reviewing legislation to improve programs; and Managing personnel workload. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
