Incumbent works in the Commander, Navy Region, Southwest (CNRSW) Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program under the general supervision of the designated manager. Incumbent is responsible for the management, supervision, design, administration, operation, and technical direction of a fitness facility and the fitness program within the Southwest Region. Incumbent is assigned to the Fitness Centers for Naval Base Point Loma.
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- The work requires standing, sitting, walking and lifting 50 pounds or more while performing duties.
- Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certification is required.
- Certification from a nationally recognized agency in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
Qualifications
Practical knowledge and understanding of exercise science and exercise prescription.
Certification from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Cooper Institute for Aerobic Research, or other nationally recognized certifying agency or be able to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
Knowledge of basic cardiovascular risk factors, weight loss and nutritional habits, proper biomechanical techniques and fitness testing.
Knowledge and skill in the instruction and proper use of exercise equipment.
Ability to handle emergency situations.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification.
Ability to maintain records and reports, follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively with others.
