This position is located in the Fleet Recreation Program of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Southwest Region. The primary purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive program of social, cultural, athletic and recreational activities that promote a happy, healthy lifestyle and meet the identified needs and interests of sailors.

Requirements

• Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
• The work requires standing, sitting, walking and lifting 50 pounds or more while performing duties.
• Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certification is required.
• Certification from a nationally recognized agency in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

One-year supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of recreation policies, principles concepts and methodology of recreation. Knowledge and skills required to plan, implement and carry out all activities of a young adult activity program. Ability to plan, assign, train and supervise the work of subordinates. Knowledge of inventory procedures and controls. Ability to market programs. Knowledge of budget preparation and accounting systems and processes. Ability to make independent judgment and sound decisions. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Education

• A degree from an accredited college or university with a course of study in Recreation Management/Administration or closely related field, is desired.
