About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Provides both technical and administrative day to day supervision to all personnel assigned to the laboratory areas.
Designs and operates classroom, demonstration, and experimental laboratories.
Plans, organizes, prepares and manages day-to-day the laboratory operations from a technical and administrative viewpoint.
Conducts, performs and operates both Civil and Mechanical engineering laboratories and supports capstone projects as a laboratory technician.
Designs, builds, and tests complex mechanical mechanisms and machines.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 80 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- The incumbent of this position will be required to obtain and maintain qualification as a Contracting Officer Representative within prescribed time frames.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience Statement: Specialized experience is defined as work that involves: 1) the designing, operation, and/or maintenance of an organization's laboratory area, programs and/or equipment; 2) providing technical and/or mechanical engineering support for designing, building, fabricating and/or testing mechanical mechanisms or machines for instruction or research purposes using standard shop equipment; AND 3) leading and/or providing guidance to team members involved in the maintenance of electronic, civil, mechanical, or other related systems. This definition of specialized experience is equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service.
