THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 SUPERVISORY PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST (MI RRB), Position Description Number T5631000 and is part of the MI JFHQ Army, National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS A TITLE 5 EXCEPTED NATIONAL GUARD POSITION*** This position, located in the Chief of Marketing Department for a Recruiting Battalion (Bn), is responsible for planning, directing and supervising the activities of the office and all assigned personnel. The position serves as the principle technical advisor to the Bn Commander. The areas of responsibility include all facets of advertising, promotional and public affairs programs within the Bn. Serves on the staff of the Bn Commander and exercises staff supervision over marketing activities in recruiting companies and stations. The incumbent performs the following duties: 1. Advertising - Plans develops and manages advertising programs for Army National Guard recruiting within the Bn area. Conducts media and market analyses to determine which media are best suited to reach primary and secondary target markets. 2. Promotion - Plans and supervises sales promotion activities within the Bn area. Coordinates with Bn operations and local National Guard units for use of armories, readiness centers, and other facilities to support promotional programs. Coordinates with State Broadcasting Association and arranges placement of approved National Guard public service announcements with local media outlets. 3. Public Affairs - Plans and supervises all aspects of command information, public information and community relations within the Bn. Oversees publications of the Bn newsletters and other informational documents. 4. Supervises and directs the work activities of personnel assigned to the Marketing Department including dual status technicians, contractors and active duty personnel. Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates media servicing activities.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Months Required: 36 Experience, education, or training involving a thorough knowledge of writing and communication principles, methods and techniques that relate to public affairs of the military. Experience developing new information materials including news releases, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc., that increase communication with the agency's audiences. Experience making on-the-spot presentations to audiences with opposing points of view or erroneous understanding of agency positions. Experience responding timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services.
