You will serve as the Active Thermal Control System (ATCS) Deputy System Manager for the Gateway Program where you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and management in support of the System Manager and for Active Thermal Control Systems for human space flight vehicles. You will also assist in the management of a team of skilled Active Thermal Control Engineers providing technical authority to the Program and assist in providing products to the Program regarding the system.

Duties

Develop, test, evaluate, research, operate, maintain, remodel, and decommission spacecraft. Understand, visualize, analyze, design, and operate aerospace vehicles and structures operating within, above, and beyond the Earth's atmosphere. Conduct production, fabrication, operation, certification, and/or maintenance of aerospace vehicles or integrally associated equipment. Also plan, research, design, develop, test and evaluate, complete cost analyses, and program/project management. Investigate phenomena encountered in aerospace flight. Monitor and analyze unknown or unfamiliar aerospace vehicles and adhere to or develop aerospace flight safety standards and regulations. Work alongside contract aerospace engineers to perform various duties to incorporate new technologies, improve reliability, extend the life of an aerospace vehicle, or reduce total ownership costs. Conduct specialized studies on flight vehicles, which may include overall and individual major systems components, and additional airborne equipment encompassed in the structure, to ensure their safety, suitability, and effectiveness in operation. Apply research and developmental engineering of specialized habitats with the development of human-tolerant systems and equipment necessary to sustain life in a space flight environment focused on human space flight. Engineering analysis, design, development, and testing of environmental/thermal control and life support equipment and systems for human space flight vehicles with human-tolerant equipment necessary to sustain life in a space flight environment. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level. Providing insight and oversight to spaceflight vehicle providers in the area of Active Thermal Control Systems and operating spaceflight vehicles above and beyond Earth's atmosphere; Providing technical leadership and working with multidisciplinary teams integrating spacecraft thermal systems; and Assisting in the development of costs and schedules for projects or programs. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
